You Can Call Me Al...(paca)

alpacas_ Attention 9750297.JPG

Just what you always wanted - sweaters on four legs!  Shear-ly you wool like to join the other KCC members on this evening's jaunt to visit an Alpaca Farm at  Hubbert Farms at 600 Lily Lake Road (weather permitting - soggy alpacas are apparantly camera shy!).  There will be lots of photo opportunities to get "cute" photos at this event, including 15 or more baby alpacas.  BTW - did you know that an alpaca is preggers for 18 months!  Who would have guessed?  That's one way to cut down on overpopulation!

A second, little known scientific fact . . . Genetic scientists attempted some years ago to cross breed a female alpaca with a male wallaby. Unfortunately their funding was scaled back as their project came under NAFTA rules due to the offspring being "wooly jumpers"!   :)

No more details - please!

Monthly Challenge - Season's End

Let your images this month reflect the changes you observe as summer ends.  Whether it may be to your joy or chagrin, record the memorable moments and signs such as; the kids preparing for school, a last swim in the lake, evening walks requiring a jacket, or marshmallows turning black around a campfire. Here is an opportunity to create some truly emotional images.

Orchard and Winery Tour

Now we don't want to hear any "wining" about the club not getting outside enough in the wonderful fresh air, where there are all kinds of intoxicating subjects to try and focus on! We are off this time to Bowmanville for our monthly outing.  Meeting first at Timmys for a caffeine charge, then off to several orchards and a winery for some up-close and personal observations (and sampling) of the local produce.  Remember to pack a designated driver so sampling can be enjoyed responsibly. There are of course the customary gift and fresh produce shops.  Be sure to join us at the lunch stop, which has been planned to take place in the midst of the merriment (and picture taking). More details to follow.

A "Zim"-ply Mah-velous Evening, Dahling!

Tonight's event is not to be confused with a photoshoot of the "Zimmers", the English oldies pop group.  (see YouTube or iTunes)   Sorry for any confusion!

In reality . . .  begin with a large selection of Zimbabwe based stone sculpture art.  Now add your own creative eye to the mix along with a summer's evening light.  Now you have the opportunity to create some powerful photographic images.  Tripods, and light-reflective surfaces (reflector, whiteboard etc) are highly recommended for this type of photography.

Zim Art's web link is on the KCC website "Links & Resources" page

Thanks to the staff at Zim Art - Rice Lake Gallery, for extending their hours to accommodate the KCC members' visit for this evening's photoshoot.

Light Up the Night

Our group will be taking a "light-hearted" approach to the techy aspects of creating images in the dark utilizing alternate light sources.  This session is for members to implement the tips and skills that Gerry's "fireworks" photography tutorial offered previously, at KCC's end of August meeting. You could have a bright future ahead by mastering these dark art skills.

Feel free to bring along light sources such as; glow sticks, flashlights, lanterns, sparklers etc. * Please keep safety in mind in your choices of illumination,

Tripods are a definite asset for this event.

Lang Village Harvest

Here is an opportunity to see how food was prepared and put away for a Peterborough winter long before Sobeys and Costco arrived in the area. This is definitely a Canada 150 photo-op!

There should be some low light opportunities and challenges here.  Flash use is probably not the best option!  A higher ISO and a fast lens may be more suitable tools for gathering in the light. You could reap some terrific images!

Then there is the usual KCC followup at the coffee shop, this time found at Ashburnham Rd and Lansdowne St.

An Evening at the ZOO

It's time to pay a visit to Peterborough's Riverview Park & Zoo. This event should provide you with some practise with getting a clear image of a usually moving target. Whether they be covered in fur, feathers or scales the zoo inhabitants should provide some interesting photographic subjects.

Following the picture taking, there is a certain coffee shop close by on Water Street where we can swap stories and show off some images.

The Church Chase

Here is a challenge for you so decide how you will like to join the chase. Will you travel "soul-o" or would you rather "congregate" with some other like-minded KCC members?

Choose a particular feature found on/in a church building, then see how many different churches (and include other places of worship if you like) you can locate to obtain photographs of that same feature.  Identifying each location might be useful, and car pooling could be fun. Begin your chase at any one of the local churches

The after chase collection will take place at the coffee shop at Monaghan Rd and Lansdowne St.
