Here is your opportunity to release your inner "Hallmark" self and create that perfect Holiday seasonal image that would make any greeting card company desirous of it.  Sorry, NO text on this one, let the images broadcast your message

This is a reflective time of the year, show us your interpretation of the festive experience.

Monthly Challenge - Winter Panorama

  • Peterborough, Ontario Canada (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

To begin 2018, we invite KCC members to try their hand at creating an outdoor panorama image on a "winter" theme. We are sure you can "stretch" that theme to cover almost any subject.

You wil have to decide if you will utilize a tripod, or a rail or a slider, or perhaps even the "longshot", handholding the camera. There is a wide variety of methods from which to choose.  Experiment with some of the different techniques to see what works best for you.

Keep in mind that a panorama can be captured in either a portrait or landscape  direction, depending on the subject being captured. This photo should ether tell a long story, or a tall tale!

Monthly Outing - Trenton Air Museum

Today, KCC members are to take off for a flying visit to Trenton's National Air Force Museum.

Following a short cruise down the 401, you will be able to get up close and personal to a fine collection of aircraft (both inside and outside the building). You might get a chance to practise your panorama skills here as well.

Following lunch (and depending on weather) you might like to wander along the shoreline or the Canal (which is the same canal shared by Campbellford and Peterborough). You might discover some unique photo opportunities to enjoy during the afternoon.

More information is to follow.

Depth of Field

You have probably heard the term "depth of field" if you hang around with other photographers, but just what is it, and why should you bother with it? . . . and why would you want to know the size of some farmer's pasture just to get a photo of it? . . . and why is Dianna offering to bring chess pawns to the meeting?

For the answers to those questions, and other deep discussion topics, join us in this tutorial session.  Come prepared with camera and tripod to experiment with your new found knowledge!

Fine Tuning Your Camera's Autofocus

Gerry's baaaack!  The evening's tutorial will show you how to test your camera's lenses to assess if each of their fine focus points are accurate. and if they aren't, find out what you can do about it.

Bring your camera, lenses, a tripod and a long tape measure so you can participate in this "made to measure" event.

Hyperfocal Distance / Buy & Sell

Now Gerry wants to assure us that this session has absolutely nothing to do with heavy breathing, or Star Trek! If you are curious as to what "Hyperfocal Distance" is all about, or if you have never heard of it, then this tutorial is for you.

Following the tutorial you can check out the KCC's second "Buy & Sell" evening.  You might find that elusive piece of photographic equipment just in time for Christmas!  And ... don't forget to clean out your cupboards and drawers and bring your "vintage" and unneeded photographic hardware for others to purchase.

Any of your unsold items must go home with you (until the next "Buy & Sell).

We meet at the Burnham car park, located at the Keene Rd and Hwy 7, at 4pm and proceed from there to Campbellford.

Dinner will be part of the event - check club email for details.

Seasonal Ornaments & Reflections

  • Jewish Community Centre of Peterborough (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

How do you take a reflected image without getting yourself in the photo? That's just one of the challenges this evening's shoot will require a solution for.  Members can get into the holiday spirit by helping each other deal with the tinsel and other shiny surfaces!  Come prepared with camera, tripod and perhaps a reflective white card to take lots of images. Don't forget to bring in those shiny decorations that reflect your inner seasonal excitement!

Following this mentally strenuous program, you will need to socialize over coffee with other KCC members.

Food Photography

It can be said that to promote an appetite for food, it is all in the presentation.  Here is our chance to test that theory. KCC members are encouraged to bring along samples of food items they deem worthy of creating images of.  Cameras and tripods will be necessary for this photoshoot, along with a plentiful amount of willpower so the photo subjects don't disappear!

... and no-one would mind if folks were to bring along a few "goodies" to share (to go with the coffee) which of course would help us to remain focussed on the project at hand! Right?

Macro and Close-ups

Walt was right, it is a small world after all!

Here is the follow up session that will provide an opportunity to hone your photography skills of getting up close and personal. Be sure to download and review the article dealing with the macro world on our "Links and Resources" page of this website.

Cameras, tripods and maybe your glasses (if required) will be helpful in this session.

Focus Stacking and Macro Mania

Gerry is at it once again, and the odds are stacked in favour of an interesting tutorial. We will be working with teenie tiny distances and capturing images of little objects, getting them all in focus.

A practice session will follow the tutorial so you will require your camera and tripod in order to focus on the skills being presented. If you have a "focussing rail" you might want to have that with you as well.

Smaller is definitely more challenging for photographers to stay focussed.

Monthly Challenge - Fencing in B&W and Colour

This is NOT an Olympic favourite.  No rapiers or scimitars required - just a camera and maybe a tripod.  Fast forward to find a bit of fencing that fits your fancy and "fotograph" it - both in black and white, AND colour.   Simple!   Right?

Don't rail on about the challenge, and no need to set up a picket line in protest!  Once you have the colour image finalized, you need to change the mood and "feeling" of your fence foto, by featuring it in monochrome?  That's the challenge!
