Kawartha Camera Club Feels Right at Home!

Peterborough Curling Club

Indoor meetings have returned! The Club meets every Thursday night at the Peterborough Curling Club, 2195 Lansdowne Street West. During the summer months meetings are group outings to various locations within the city.

Submitting Photos for the Month End Slideshow

On the last Thursday of every month, we meet at the Peterborough Curling Club to review photos taken throughout the month. We encourage all members to participate in the slideshow and speak about their photos. We want to know what you like, dislike, might change next time or, if you would like some feedback on your images. Some monthly slideshows are sent electronically to members when the curling club is not available to us on slideshow presentation day. All monthly slideshows are uploaded to our YouTube Channel found HERE!. Check out some of the amazing photographs from our members of all skill levels, absolute beginners to advanced.

In order to allow time to gather and create the slideshow, we ask that all participants have photos submitting no later than 6pm on the Monday before the month end meeting. In circumstances, where members are unable to submit their photos electronically, they can send their photos on a USB memory stick to the slideshow creator ahead of the due date, however this is not the preferred method.

Members are asked to resize their photos to 1024 pixels along the long edge, to ensure that the file size of both the email and the final slideshow are kept to a minimum. There is no visible difference to the photos if they are submitted at a higher resolution.

We also ask that photos are renamed to include your first name and surname initial at the beginning of the file followed by an underscore and the title, e.g. JohnS_closeup1.jpg, JohnS_closeup2.jpg, etc.). This helps everyone know who the photo is from, and more importantly it keeps each photographer's photos together during the slideshow.

If you would like to submit photos for the month end show, please attach the files to an email and send them to info@kawarthacameraclub

If you have any questions regarding this process please contact Linda McIlwain at the email above.

Membership Email

The KCC  Email distribution list is regularly reviewed to ensure that paid members are receiving KCC email messages. If you have paid your fees and provided email/contact information, then you should have received an emailed invitation to join the email distribution list to stay up to date on Club events and news. To activate receipt of the club's emails you need to accept the emailed invitation.

If you haven't seen an invitation, please double check your spam or junk mail folders, as this is a common issue we can't really get around.

If you have not yet paid your current membership fees, you may have been removed from the email distribution.

If you have any questions, please contact any member of the steering committee.

2023/24 Steering Committee

The previous steering committee had been in office for 2 years. It was looking for fresh, new ideas and replacement members on the committee. Ideally, 5-7 people are required.

The steering committee consists of:

  • Chairperson - Oversees and conducts meetings.

  • Treasurer - Maintains the club financials, accounting, registrations, collection of dues and 50/50 draws

  • Secretary - looks after meeting records, maintenance of members list, name tags.

  • Website Coordinator - Maintains the website and email system and monthly slideshow.

  • Publicity person - Responsible for posters, business cards, car signs, etc. To promote the club and events.

  • Events Organizer - Responsible for determining and scheduling activities and events, monthly outings, and topic/challenge for each meeting. This individual usually calls for assistance from the membership in planning and organizing events.

The steering committee meets once a month for approximately 2 hours. If you have any questions regarding specific duties, tasks, time requirements, etc. of any of the positions, please feel free to contact the steering committee.

Thanks,

KCC Facebook Group

A KCC Facebook Group has been introduced specifically for the club, which is exclusive to our members. It's a great place to post photos and ask for some constructive critique, share photography web links and articles, sell gear, plan photo outings, and engage in photography based discussion with other members.

Involvement in the Facebook group is optional and does not replace our email or website communications on upcoming events or club news.

As always, if you have any ideas or suggestions for the club, please let any member of the steering committee know.

KCC Flickr Group

When the Kawartha Camera Club was established in the fall of 2012, one of the first things to be done was to set up a Flickr "Group". For those unfamiliar with Flickr, it is  an image hosting website used to share and embed personal photographs.

Flickr also hosts things called "Groups" where an online community is formed around a particular subject. There are Flickr Groups for everything you can imagine, where people can share photos of a common them and engage in discussions with other users.

Our club's Flickr Group currently consists of  members sharing over 1,100 photos. There are also a couple different ongoing discussions that members can take part in.   If you have a Flickr account, then you simply need to navigate to the group and click the "Join Group" button.

Camera Exposure Simulator

Are you trying to understand the "exposure triangle"?  Canon has developed an online interactive camera exposure simulator that allows users to move sliders which control aperture, shutter speed, and ISO to create the desired exposure and effect. Any brand of camera follows these principles, as long as there are  manual control features available.

There is a written explanation for each slider's use and its affect on the final image. You can experiment in aperture priority, shutter priority, or full manual modes.
